With the release of It Rains Love, Lee Fields arrives at the 50-year mark in his career as a soul journeyman. With roots in the golden era of funk and soul, Fields paved the way for artists like Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley, both close friends to Fields, through his collaborations with the community of musicians and producers who would form record labels such as Daptone, Truth & Soul and Big Crown beginning in the late 90s.
It Rains Love is one of his most nuanced and hypnotically grooving albums yet, made with the help of his band The Expressions and Big Crown Records producer and co-founder Leon Michels.
Lee Fields & The Expressions launched their 2019 tour with a hometown album release show at Brooklyn Steel in Williamsburg and continue with dates through the US and Europe into the fall.
As torch-bearer of emotionally raw and direct soul music, Fields is still restlessly and humbly moving forward.
